William Lindsay, 1st of Feddinch, was second son of Patrick Lindsay of Wolmerston, and acquired the lands of Feddinch from John Patullo of Balhouffie in which he was infeft on 23 June 1721. He m. in 1720, Margaret, daughter of Ronald Wemyss of Lathocker, (she was widow of James Moncrieff of Sauchope, by whom she had issue; and d. in 1776, aged eighty-seven years), and d. by February 1762 having had issue;

  1. Patrick Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 14 January 1725 and dsp.
  2. John Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 19 October 1727 and dsp.
  3. William Lindsay, 2nd of Feddinch, (see below).
  4. George Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 25 March 1730.
  5. Katherine Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 15 March 1721.
  6. Elizabeth Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 11 September 1722 and m. on 23 April 1744, to Mr. Patrick Glass, Minister of Crail.[1]They had issue.
  7. Marie Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 7 October 1723.
  8. Margaret Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 28 February 1726.
  9. Anna Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 28 January 1732.
  10. Susanna Lindsay, bap. at Crail, on 31 December 1733.

William Lindsay, 2nd of Feddinch, bap. at Crail, on 25 October 1728 and succeeding his father, he was served heir to him on 5 February 1762,[2] and infeft in the lands of Feddinch on 18 June 1762. He m. on 15 August 1762, to Elizabeth, daughter of Arthur Balfour of Fernie,[3] d. in 1801 and was father of,

  1. William Lindsay, 3rd of Feddinch, bap. on 23 October 1771 and succeeded his father in 1801. He m. on 13 October 1805, to Frances Paterson, (she d. at Feddinch, on 15 June 1837[4]), and dsp at Feddinch, on 31 March 1841.[5] His nephew, James Lindsay, son of his sister Charlotte succeeded as heir to the lands of Feddinch.
  2. Arthur Lindsay, bap. on 23 February 1774.
  3. John Lindsay, bap. on 12 November 1778 and served as a Major in the army. He dsp at Buxar, in 1818.[6]
  4. Janet Lindsay, bap. on 27 March 1764 and m. Alexander Brown.
  5. Margaret Lindsay, bap. on 11 October 1765 and m. on 3 September 1799, to David Glas, 1st of Smiddiegreen,[7] (he d. at Smiddiegreen, on 18 October 1839[8]). She d. at Smiddiegreen, on 30 January 1839,[9] having had issue.
  6. Helen Lindsay, bap. on 22 July 1767 and d. unmarried, at St. Andrews, on 17 June 1841.[10]
  7. Barbara Francis Lindsay, bap. on 29 November 1769 and m. on 26 December 1797, to William Keir.[11]
  8. Elizabeth Lindsay, bap. on 9 December 1775 and m. at Feddinch, on 8 November 1803, to Lieutenant-Colonel George Bell, 30th Regiment.[12]
  9. Charlotte Lindsay, bap. on 6 July 1780 and m. at Feddinch, on 29 August 1805, to Patrick Lindsay, Wine Merchant in Leith,[13] (he d. on 8 October 1837[14]). They had issue which succeeded to the lands of Feddinch on the death without issue of her brother, William Lindsay of Feddinch, in 1841.
  10. Boswell Lindsay, bap. on 22 August 1781 and m. at Feddinch, on 13 December 1807, to William Lindsay, Merchant in Leith,[15] brother of her sister Charlotte’s husband, Patrick Lindsay.
  11. Moncrieff Lindsay, bap. on 22 August 1781 and m. on 31 December 1805, to George Paterson of Cunnoquhy.[16]
