I have noticed a degree of confusion relating to the circumstances and identity of the first MacLachlan of Fassifern. The matter is clarified by the Sasine in favour of Dugald MacLachlan in Camushallich dated 2 September 1675, for the lands of Fassifern, Wanach, Glendulin, Kennacoal and others, all lying in the barony of Lochiel, upon contract of wadset between MacLachlan and Ewen Cameron of Lochiel dated 3 June 1675 (see NRS RS10/1/114). Dugald macLachlan of fassifern married Ann Cameron, who died in July 1693, and by her he was father of,
- John
- Euan
- Duncan
- Charles
- Allan
- Alexander
- Margaret
- Janet, all of whom are named in their mother’s Testament.
There also appears to have been an eldest son, Lachlan MacLachlan, who succeeded to Fassifern and was dead by June 1707, leaving a son and namesake, Lachlan MacLachlan, who succeeded him at Fassifern.
